About

Alexandra (she/her) is a composer, arranger and pianist based in Meanjin/Brisbane, Australia. Her style is driven by emotive, lyrical melodies and cinematic qualities, and she often finds inspiration in nature and little moments in everyday life.

Alexandra has composed works for a range of ensembles and instrumentations, including solo piano, chamber orchestra, symphony orchestra, wind symphony and SATB choir. Her compositions have been premiered and performed by Camerata (Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra), Brisbane Chamber Choir, Vox Llinette, Queensland Youth Orchestras, Pulse Chamber Orchestra and Sketch Ensemble, both in Australia and internationally. She is Camerata’s 2024 Emerging Composer-in-Residence and her latest composition, Spirit of the Banana Shire, premiered during their Regional Tour in June. Alexandra was also a composer fellow for the Vox Camerata Choral Collective Residency Programme in 2022 and a composer-in-residence for Queensland Youth Orchestras in 2023.

In 2021, Alexandra was awarded a Special Mention in the Australian Women’s Wind Band Composition Award, for her piece, A Little Bit of Fun. In addition to chamber and orchestral works, she has composed the original scores for two short films, Game Over (2020) and Flying Solo (2021).

Growing up in the regional town of Lismore, NSW, Alexandra commenced her study of piano at the age of six, under the tutelage of Robyn Egan, and completed her Associate in Music, Australia (AMusA) in 2019. Commencing her university studies in 2018, she studied piano for several years under the tutelage of Dr. Anna Grinberg and Max Olding, before completing a major in composition under Dr. Robert Davidson. She holds a Bachelor of Music (Class I Honours) and a Bachelor of Science (Physics) from the University of Queensland. Her Honours research investigated the use of particular compositional techniques to evoke an emotional response in the listener.

Alexandra was a member of UQ’s Sketch Ensemble from 2021-23, as both a composer and performer. She was also a member of the UQ Chorale from 2018-19 and the UQ Chamber Singers in 2021, and has performed in a range of venues including the Queensland Performing Arts Centre and St. John’s Cathedral, Brisbane.
